All the Best People Are
'But I don't want to go among mad people,' said Alice. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the cat. 'We're all mad here.'
On the days before Spring Break 2021, Madness seemed to be a good topic to discuss. This morning on our pre-dawn walk, Luna picked three places on the path to stop and get frisky with me…biting and tugging on her leash and barking her head off. Now, there are houses near the park and I felt myself slip automatically into the role…you know the one…where I behave just as I should and be very concerned about disturbing others. Luna wasn’t angry, she wasn’t alerting to anyone or anything, she wasn’t even particularly interested in the ducks this time. She was just barking…almost like laughing. I fussed at her mightily and marched nearly the rest of the way home before I realized how stupid I was being. The ducks make WAY more noise that Luna does barking, so the people in the houses are probably desensitized to the noise. And anyway, Luna is a dog…barking for the joy of barking. Yes, she sounds crazy, but so what? I need to unclench a little and release some of the stress (still can’t send email after five days, several kids missing work, collaboration day upcoming) and just be joyful. Today after work, Luna and I are going to the dog park so she can run around with abandon, sniff butts to her heart’s content, and make some noise.
And tomorrow…on our pre-dawn walk, I think I will join her when she starts to bark. Just for the joy of it.
Lighten up, people.
