I’m ALWAYS tired in September…

I was told once by a veteran teacher that if you can make it to the end of October, you’ve won the year. Full of youthful energy and determination, I scoffed…naturally. Twenty-two years in, I don’t scoff anymore. I awake each morning and do an inventory of the aches and pains and the overwhelming desire to hit the snooze again. Six months ago I would have had a little adrenalin dump and wondered, “is it ‘Rona??” I was looking back through old journals, specifically to see if I could detect a pattern. In almost every one there are gaps between the start of school and the end of September…sometimes whole weeks go by with either no entry or just a one-word (“tired”) or two words (“so tired”) or even three (“so f@#$ing tired”). Don’t despair, folks…Autumn begins in two days…the planet will continue to groan away from the sun…sweaters will be appropriate…we can do it! Go ahead and decorate for Halloween…or Christmas, if that brings you joy. You won’t notice it right away, but your step will become lighter, your breaths deeper, and your shoulders will slowly ease back down away from your ears.

Hang in there!
