Hazard
Well, we had an adventure this past week. Luna and I jumped in the car on Thursday afternoon and headed for San Antonio. Just north of Hillsboro, in a construction zone (thank you very much), the front right tire blew out. I pulled it over on the tiny shoulder, right up next to the cement bunker, and used the fairly non-intuitive app to contact my insurance company. I sat there for about 45 minutes waiting on a tow truck to come…when the guy called to tell me he’d spotted me, he said I needed to call my insurance people back and change the claim from a tire change to a safety tow. I tried. Five times. Five times my roadside assistance folks hung up on me. The man with the tow truck pulled up in front of me, got out of his cab, WALKED IN THE LANE OF TRAFFIC to my car…he said very calmly, “Ma’am, I need you to grab your dog, exit your vehicle, and get into the cab of my truck. Right now. I need to make sure you are safe.” I did what he said. Luna was not happy…I had to pick her up to put her in the cab that was taller than I am. I had scary visions of her pulling out of her harness and getting hit by a car. It was traumatic for me, I can only imagine how it was for her. Anyway, thoroughly dissatisfied with the service from my roadside assistance, I ended up paying for the tow and a new tire. Mostly I am just grateful. For the man who stopped traffic to help me…to the other man (a construction worker) who brought me water and checked to see if I was okay…there were angels all around me…I didn’t stop to be frightened until after I was safely at Mom’s. She had pizza rolls and a big glass of wine waiting for me.
Still shaking a little.
