Shivers
So today Luna and I went for our early morning walk. It was 75 degrees at 5:00 a.m. and HUMID. As we are making our way to the park a light breeze starts blowing the dead leaves around our ankles. It’s October, so that’s to be expected, I suppose. About midway through the track at the park we walked through MUCH cooler air…goosebump-raising cool. I didn’t think much of it until the Dog Walkers appeared out of nowhere…this is a group of three older people, two women and a man and four dogs among them. These are not quiet folks. They don’t seem to care that it is still the wee hours for some people. They chat and laugh LOUDLY as they make their way around the track. Usually. Today I did not see or hear them coming. They were just THERE. After walking through chilled air.
And then, after leaving the park and heading on to the greenbelt (shout out to the young man approaching the bus stop for stomping his feet so as to not startle me…by now I’ve got my self pretty thrilled), the trees began to MOAN…like MOAN…the wind is out of the north and the trees are dancing in the wind, branches thrown up like arms, leaves whispering and roaring.
I quickened my pace.
Luna still wanted to sniff every blade of grass.
Oh, well…if there are zombies out there, I guess I’m breakfast.
When she was finished and we resumed our walk, a strange halo formed around all the lights…it didn’t creep like fog…I thought it could be smoke, but there was no odor to it…maybe dust, but it wasn’t gritty.
And then an alarm started sounding…didn’t sound like a car alarm or a house alarm, but it started making its wailing sound, and I was done. Apart from Luna having to stop and inspect the cats under bushes and cars we hightailed it home. This is Cat weather, Luna, let’s leave them to it.
