Home

Home is the nicest word there is.

Laura Ingalls Wilder

I left for work this morning, not quite smug, but certainly satisfied. I worked hard all weekend and it shows! My kitchen is clean, same for the bathrooms, the other rooms dusted and vacuumed, and the vacuum cleaner EVEN PUT AWAY. I did some food prep so lunch is taken care of. I gave Luna a smooch and headed to my home-away-from-home. It has been three weeks since I was in my little nook at school, and there was definitely a sense of homecoming when I arrived this morning…the temperature check and cheerful greetings (not to mention the acknowledgement of the fauna-du-jour) are beginning to find a place in the routine of School.

I can peek at Luna with the Furbo, assuming she is in the line of sight, and get a glimpse of THAT home…puppy, Christmas decor, the promise of sanctuary…I can revel in the sights, sounds, and smells of THIS home (one very positive thing about virtual learning is that the halls don’t smell of Teenager)…and I can anticipate the lovely concept of the HOME where Mom is, and the reunion (in whatever shape it takes) with my biological family. I look forward to the time when I can visit with my chosen family, too, but for now…I will carry THAT part of home in my heart.
