Mushrooms

Come Fairies, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame!

William Butler Yeats

My message for my students this week is to get up and move. They are beginning to look pasty and sallow…I’ve noticed some of them are wearing the same thing as they did the last class (two days ago) and I worry that they will become the fabled fungus…they sit in the dark amid their own funk. Today I instructed them to go to the front or back door, open it, and take three deep breaths…they came back with a bit of color in their cheeks, even if they didn’t actually do what I asked them to. At least they got out of bed or out of the camera angle.

Of course I will follow my own advice. I have Trans-Siberian Orchestra blaring the Christmas songs I enjoy so much, and I will dance through the house after classes are done.

Alter expectations, folks…what might have seemed ridiculous or absurd in another age might just be what saves your life today.

Shake your groove thing and stop being a Mushroom.
