V
Yesterday (because it was the fifth of November), I watched V for Vendetta. I don’t remember ever watching it all the way through before. I found myself swept up in the story and all of its dystopic nature. The United States are no longer united, but instead full of civil war and unrest…they are offering grain in exchange for medical supplies from England…England has engineered a virus that killed 80,000 people and are now ruled by a despot. I tried not to let it get to me…willing suspension of disbelief, and all, but I was carried away by the final scenes when the streets fill with people wearing the Guy Fawkes mask and protesting the status quo.
I don’t want it to be like that for us. I want there to be unity, healing, compassion, and cooperation in our country. We don’t need a vendetta…we need to stop acting the fool.
And still we wait.
